As licensed brokers in Australia, Miller & Associates has access to all local insurers. It is Miller & Associates philosophy to approach all likely markets to achieve the best possible results. The company believes that the marketing and placement of a client′s insurances should be a tripartite effort of client, insurer and broker.

In the financial year ending 30th June 2004, some 35% of Miller & Associates annual premium volume or about $AU35 million was placed in the London market with the balance placed locally. To achieve these placements, contact was made with every insurance company represented by a licensed entity in Australia. Miller & Associates leaves no stone unturned.

Insurance Market Facilities

Insurance Market Facilities are a subsidiary of Miller & Associates. The global market for liability business has been difficult for a number of years and is just beginning to show some signs of relief. During that time, many Australian organisations which faced significant exposures to the public, found it extremely difficult to source coverage. These include local government, owners of stadia, clubs and others involved with risks involving large numbers of people. To avoid any suggestion of conflict of interest, Miller formed a wholesale broking division – Insurance Market Facilities – led by Brett Field – which trades independently and was able to source capacity for hard to place risks of this nature. As a result, many brokers have appointed Miller & Associates to help them to obtain the coverage that they were unable to obtain.

Frequent Mutual Visits

Miller & Associates understands the importance of both Australian, London and other overseas markets. Both Miller and Miller & Associates personnel visit each other and each other′s markets on a regular basis.

Miller & Associates directors visit London several times each year, as does Brett Field of Insurance Market Facilities. Other Miller & Associates senior staff visit as required by their clients.

Miller personnel visit Australia regularly.

As a result, both Miller and Miller & Associates personnel are fully aware of the capabilities, advantages and restrictions of all available markets. We are therefore in a position to provide real alternatives for our clients to consider.

Miller & Associates believes in forming partnerships with its clients and involving its clients in face to face meetings with underwriters. It has been found that this assists negotiations and resolves any potential differences when both underwriter and client have a greater appreciation of their relevant positions.

The Miller & Associates experience is that this practice generally results in reductions in insurance costs and improvements in cover. Over the years, many Australian corporations who have availed themselves of this strategy have received tangible benefits such as; lower rates, acceptance of difficult claims and broader coverage for problematic risks.
